If you are in tech and you have a single income family (stay at home spouse, no kids) in the seattle area - can you guys share what your budget / saving style looks like? How much is ok to spend with the goal of becoming a millionaire in a few years? Any tips?

I pretty much save every dollar that doesn’t go to housing and groceries. I might spend $100 each month on personal stuff, but vast majority of money goes directly to savings/investments.

  • Tips are: have a spouse that works, don't have kids... or work harder and get to a level where your comp makes up for it. (I'm currently on the "not going to be a millionaire path")

πŸ€” 1) increase your income. The way you do that is get better at what you do professionally and move up or move out.
    2) get your spouse to start working. Even if that means going back to school. In the long run she's going to brining in some money.
    3) invest invest invest. Understand that growing your money is as important of making more at your day job.
    4) have or plan on a secondary passive income. There are many ways to do this. Google :) it.

I don’t think you can become a millionaire in few years, if you solely rely on your salary income.

    • This is a question I constantly ask myself. What do people on H1B do to supplement their income, given that you can only work at your employer. Genuine question, eager to find opportunities.

    • Yeah man, can you give a couple of anonymous examples... Curious to know what kind. Right now I just buy and sell equity stocks and Bitcoin but would be good to know if more opportunities exist.
