Been at FB 1.5 years, completely burnt out. Can't tolerate anything.. don't want to come to work. Feeling depressed... I have 24 PTO left.

I am on H1B and can't just quit. I can take all my PTO off to recover or considering taking FMLA leave... Ideas?

I don't think OP qualify for FMLA, but take all your PTO and travel (even inside the USA) and you will feel much better. When you come back stick to regular working hours

That's about how long I lasted. After six months more I bailed and took two years off

Better try out short term disability. It applies to mental well being issues as well. Depending on how long you have been with company it may pay you 100% of your salary for first 3 months or so. But you would need a doctor’s note (from India would work too) stating that you are not in mental or physical state to render your duties at work.

@Babylove have you taken Fmla based on doctors note from India or personally know someone who has done so?

  • You can't burn yourself out this quickly man. I've been at this since the dotcoms, it's an endurance race. Don't work 80 hours ever. 50 hours max. Aim for 32.

How is it possible to work less when your manager and more importantly your team members are expecting you to work late into the night and weekends? I feel some frustration coming from them after a point.

How is it possible that you found a group of people that work late into the night? I’d only think that can happen in a company where everyone is very young.

  • Dude getting burnt out is like getting needle pricks every time someone asks you for status ... u don’t get depressed... u gtfo as soon as possible at first opportunity U get to relieve the pain... once u out to any company that will hire you then recover and strategize what you are going to work next.
