My SWE buddy was told that he shouldn’t expect a high tech salary from Stitch Fix, bc they’re not a tech company. Someone told him (from there) that they’re more of a logistics company? Say what? It’s making him insecure in negotiations and I’m thinking, if they’re not tech, then Amazon’s not tech either. Bc they can’t do their business without tech — just like Amazon.

What do you guys think???

Don’t compare no other website to Amazon retail. Its code is really well designed and allows a million people to work on it simultaneously and for at most as 10 billion customers to place orders. Amazon is not a single page mom-and-pop shop but rather a well oiled and highly architected instrument like a Swiss watch. It’s a big difference for a website that serves 10 people and can do 10 different things and Amazon retail. Huge difference. Just like a piece of wood in the middle of ocean and a U.S navy 1 mile long ship that can carry 40+ aircrafts on board

Jeff 🐝 , calm down. My boy will bail on Stitch Fix, k? He’s in his 3rd interview with your company, and he’ll get low balled by a proper tech giant.

Have you seen their algorithm tour? If they're not tech, then half of silicon valley are just shops. https://algorithms-tour.stitchfix.com/

I can only speak to the subjects i know but when looking at the warehouse and logistics functions,,,, it’s child’s play. They literally wrote some bs algorithm which is hot garbage.. chose warehouse based on inventory, cost and distance… no shit that’s how everyone allocates inventory

  • Some of the people here sound pretty uninformed. Just check out the Multithreaded Algorithms blog. Unless you’re a good negotiator and incredibly experienced (IE >10 YOE), there’s a good chance that Stitch Fix pays more than Amazon. I don’t know who told him that Stitch Fix doesn’t pay well but if it’s a recruiter, then that person should go through some training or something. There’s a reason our Algos org has many ex-Netflixers.

    • Also, Stitch Fix pays well enough, but it is certainly not top of market comp. it can’t compete with NFLX comp, Roblox comp, Brex, etc

    • In my experience, Stitch Fix pays quite a bit more than Facebook, Google, Amazon, and LinkedIn. That is pretty impressive. I can’t say how it compares Netflix, Roblox, or Brex, as I haven’t interviewed at any of those places.

I think having a few ex-Netflixers in the Algos org is pretty impressive, given that the Algos org only has 120 or so people, and Netflix makes up a fairly small part of FAANG and tech in general, in terms of number of employees.
