I just want a house where my roof doesn’t leak
I’ve been in IT for 11 years. I’m now in Service Delivery at a tech company as a tech analyst. I started in the trenches removing viruses from student pc’s, and now I’m at a leading Fintech with great WLB.
Help desk at college
NOC technician (overnights)
Comcast call center
POS Systems Analyst
Web server Application Implementation (travel)
Service Delivery Analyst at a Fintech (current)
Current TC $77k (not including OT)
I’m making the most money I’ve ever made in my life at my current position, but it’s not enough. I’m trying to be patient with the housing situation in the north east U.S, the prices are just insane. Getting married this year, so hoping to purchase a home next year.
I literally hopped on this app right after putting a bucket in a closet because our pipes under our tub are leaking. I’m fucking over it. Greatful we found this condo we’re in just as the pandemic broke, but we’ve had the worst luck imaginable with apartments. 2 years at one place, then the building was bought and we had to get out. 2 years at another place, then township came down on the landlord for renting an apartment on a single family lot. We had to leave. Now this place, the landlord just hasn’t kept up with it so it has problems like Niagara Falls in my closet.
I work with DevOps on a daily basis, I work with product owners, I know they clear 100k. I want to move up.
Anyone have tips or resources I can look into for DevOps / Product Owner paths? I know they’re very different but I honestly like both paths.
This app has been very cool so far. Happy to share my experience and be part of this community.

In order to make good money in IT you need to learn valuable skills such as scripting (Python, Shell, JavaScript), virtualization, networking, Linux (or Windows Server), AWS or GCP, system monitoring, any major SaaS provider (Okta, O365, Google Workspace), REST APIs, etc...
Feel free to DM me if you’d like some advice. I have a BS IT from a average school, 5 YoE and my total compensation is 120K (until I start my new role) and I live in a MCOL city in the southeast
OP, what does your day to day look like in your current role? What would you consider your strongest skillsets?
Service delivery to product management is generally not an easy jump to make because there’s not much overlap between job responsibilities there. You’d likely need to go a path something like business analyst to program management or solution architecture to PM. Easier path from service delivery is to move into professional services.
No degree, TC 230K, happy to offer advice on either path
