My last day of amazon is coming in the next week or so. I joined a bit less than a year ago, and felt good about the team until OLR came and I got needs improvement. There were several things that upset me. First, I kept asking for feedback, and until forte reviews came around, I mostly received positive feedback, and made it a point to note the action items I had taken when I got criticisms. Second, the performance review was given at a time where I was only at the company for like 3 months, which I thought I was ramping up quickly during that time. Third, the manager that gave me this review was a new manager and had only been my manager for like a month. My team told me I deliver results, but I found out soon it only really matters what the manager says. I’m pretty sure I would’ve made it out of dev list, but I was so unmotivated to work for amazon after seeing that, and also after seeing the kind of stuff that other people have been through that I decided to interview externally. I found a non-FAANG that up leveled me, and gives a pretty comparable TC adjusted for the new location, and that I’ve heard has good WLB, but I still question if I made the right decision. I liked my team, and the work was wasn’t bad, but my opinion on management, and the corporate politics at amazon is much more negative now than it was before.

Do you think I should’ve tried to stick it out at amazon, or do you think that being unhappy was the most likely eventuality? I’m not that worried about the change in TC, just wondering if it was a rash decision

Current TC 140k
YOE around 1 year

Edit: option 1 in the poll should say “you made the right choice leaving”
