Ok guys I'm an idiot. I was laid off like everyone else at the start of the pandemic. Instead of updating my resume I just keep interviewing as if I still work there at my last company! I've never had gaps in resume and was nervous that it would make me look undesirable. (I know ridiculous)

So none of the other interviews have turned into an offer but I had an inteoductiry call with one of the big tech company recruiters. She questioned me about my "current" job and why I was looking and I simply said for job security. But now I want to send her text telling her that I sent her the wrong resume and here is an updated one before my panel interview. Do you think she will let it slide if I correct my mistake or just push through the process and see what happens?

Side note: my thinking was that if I'm
Currently working at a company they can not reach out for info* is that not true? On a #backgroundcheck #liedonresuem

google is right...move on with the process, already to late.

they will do a standard background check on you (felon, credit, harassment etc.) They won't try and verify employment, unless you are an exec and that requires phone calls. Might want to change your tune though going forward..

They will run a background check eventually, and it will get flagged. If you get an offer, it could be rescinded. Best to say you sent an outdated resume from before you "left" your job. Since then, you've been self-employed, so that's the "current" job you were referring to on the phone.

  • well tell her some urgent personal problem just came up so you're no longer interested in interviewing. Problem solved she won't move further, then you update your resume with correct info. Then continue looking at other companies. After 1 or 2 months you can try that company again if you have nothing else, but with an updated resume this time. I doubt you'd get the same recruiter.

      OP
This is what I'm thinking but we talked about my "current role" maybe she won't remember? She's an in-house recruiter (9 think)

Oh usually when they ask about "current role" I'm just honest and say i actually left recently but leave the resume as is lol
If you already lied about that... Idk

  • This was such a bonehead mistake. So many people have been laid off due to COVID. Not working because of a layoff right now isnโ€™t even a negative blip on anybodyโ€™s radar.
