Is Google still innovating in 2022?

I feel a decrease in the number of innovations in Google compared to 2012-2016. Back then Android was growing very fast, Google Cloud was on the rise, YouTube, Docs etc.

Maybe it s just a feeling but has Google stopped creating innovative products and started to play it safe?

Theyโ€™re rapidly innovating in the dynamic field of tricking users into clicking ads in their search results domain.

If anything their search results have only gotten worse over time. I constantly find myself typing โ€œX term + Redditโ€ when I want to find information on something that isnโ€™t just an ad or payed promotion.

Yeah, I mean things that are products or experiences are great. That's what I use it for, too.
But whenever something is actually up for a discussion (e.g. anything remotely political), it's hot garbage.

Google buys many startups including YouTube. And they still do moonshot projects that become successful.

Google Maps and Google Translate have come a long way since 2016. Would the quality improvements not count?

Gcloud is still on the rise imo. Google is still creating innovative infrastructure, just not creating groundbreaking products. Apple isnโ€™t either imo. It will take a while to get to the next age of computing I think (a shift as big as the iPhone). I believe that shift is AR/VR but we are still some time away.
