I'm joining Wayfair next week and planning to move to Boston in a couple months when they open the office in-person.
Finding an apartment has been really tough as I've lived in Dallas, TX the entire time and the rent system in Boston is a bit different.
My requirements:
1B1B apartment with in unit laundry. I want the commute time to be around 30 mins one way at max. Budget- 2k to 2.5k.
Any leads on available apartments or good neighborhoods would be really helpful.

3 options:
1. Drop the laundry in unit requirement
2. Expand the commute to 45+ minutes
3. Expand the price to ~3k
Welcome to Boston.
Going a bit further out, Cambridge and somerville are pretty and have a good population make over (students/young professionals, decent nightlife). The Brookline area is one of my favorite although commute is a bit slow with the green line.
Going even further out, if you stick to the commuter trains that go to back bay you will probably still be within 30’ commute but double check with google maps.
Avoid Dorchester and surrounding areas.
Avoid Roxbury.
Avoid south Boston if possible.
Avoid East Boston.
The above are the high crime areas of the greater Boston area. You might also want to look at a crime map to get a better bearing.
I also agree that East Boston or even further is a promising place to check if you can expand your commute a bit. Blue line takes 18 mins to Downtown from there, and then 10 mins to backbay using green. But, you get a beach facing apartment in your budget, maybe a little above.
