If I am driving at or above the speed limit and you wanna go faster than me, itโs YOUR responsibility to find your way around.
Letโs say speed limit 70. Iโm 75 on left lane. And someone is 70 on the right one. Why do I gotta slow down for you to be able to go 80?
Edit: since some of you canโt understand the convent. Itโs not ONE car in right lane on 70, itโs a whole bunch of cars. To let u pass me, Iโd have to move to right, encounter someone infront of me slower, hit brakes.
And those citing โsafetyโ, please, if so concerned about safety, drive along with flow of traffic, donโt try to be so fast.
Adding highway lanes doesn't fix traffic. Effective city planning, driver behavior, and public transit do. By blocking the left lane you just cause traffic waves that grow in intensity until you have standstill traffic. LA traffic isn't bad cause exit ramps are full. Cars are able to get off the highway, the traffic is primarily artificial, caused by driver behavior at mass.
It's a hard sell in CA to dedicate one lane just for passing. Space is precious in this stage and maybe doing that opens up more problems than it solves.
Faster traffic should be on the left, but it's not a passing lane.
Came here to say this: the relevant law in California is that vehicles on highways going slower than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction should stay in the rightmost lane unless actively passing another vehicle or preparing to make a left turn. (Vehicle Code 21654)
Note that the law says slower than the normal speed of other traffic, not necessarily the speed limit. If everyone else is speeding and you're going exactly the speed limit, you're still supposed to keep right.
There's also another rule that on two-lane highways (one lane each way) that if five or more vehicles are queued up behind you, you're supposed to pull over at the first available turnout.
Did you forget that speed limit is already a law. Or did u think that was a suggestion?
