What is your Apple horror story? Mine: Being yelled at (by the principal engineer) for doing too much work bc it was better than the principal engineer’s work. Oh yeah, and a boss who thought you could run advanced DL models, and video processing pipelines, locally, on a standard mac book. 😐
I though 🍎 is a good company to work for?
Honestly I really enjoyed my time at Apple. It really is team dependent. Managers are clueless in a lot of places.
Ditto
Oh, there are so many. I requested for monitors, for which I was required to give a written "business justification" to the country head. My colleague got shortlisted for the ML conference but was denied approval to travel to SCV for the lack of "business justification". Meanwhile, booze flew like water at the new joinee party with bill raking up to INR 100K.
OP, How do you like Microsoft compared to Apple? Asking this because I am in the process of getting an offer (haven’t heard from the recruiter for close to a week though after first communication) and would like to have more inputs on working at Microsoft especially from ex Apple folks who have seen both sides.
I don’t even want to mention them here because my former boss could identify me. Gaslighting, lying about perf reviews, extreme hatred and racism, and his breath staaank. But yeah, probably “all of the below.” Thanks to that clever asshat.
Oof, it’s scary how shit so specific happens there, it’s hard to be anon about it. I didn’t talk about my experience publicly for 2years bc I didn’t want it coming back to me lol. Bad managers have little accountability at Apple, I hate their management structure, and the “crazy ones” quote is such a lie at this point.
Yep, I hate how you could not provide your skip with feedback about your manager. So much for 360 review. Just a lot of crazy politics between otherwise smart people even in the engineering orgs.
