Cambridge Analytica data issue

Why is everyone freaked out about this? Come on it’s not like you’ve your credit card or bank account or social security numbers stolen! Are people freaked out about the stealing of the idle chit chat you did with friends/family over cat pics? So they used some of this stupid data to probably target you for ads. So what! I bet only the techies are making all the noise here. Facebook is now used only by the older folks and half of them probably neither understand nor give a shit about this data sharing. Please get some perspective guys and stop the unnecessary brouhaha around this. Silicon Valley is getting bored it looks like and needs some spice and Facebook fulfilled the much needed requirements for the valley. (I’m not a fb employee)

Someone has to take blame for Clinton failing to be elected, imo.

Apple Isallguud Apr 11, 2018

The data was used by Democrats too, previously. But it was ‘ok’ then...

Amazon Ajfksbdjab Apr 11, 2018

Because they clearly said what they were using it for.

Amazon and Apple sell things I want. Google sells what I might want. Facebook sells who I am. The issue I have is with that difference.

Facebook wooooray Apr 11, 2018

The issue is that you have no idea what Facebook sells.

Compass FUPayMe Apr 11, 2018

Facebook shouldn’t be selling the info. That’s the issue. If facebook wants to keep the data and distribute ads and act as a gatekeeper of the info that’s fine. That’s how amazon operates. But they are also selling data to data brokers.

I agree that's it has been blown out of proportion and it's not a big deal, but at least get your facts straight. People are not upset about being targeted by ads. They see personal ads every day on the platform so they already knew that before the scandal. The problem is that their data has been sold. Facebook itself doesn't sell data for ads, they sell the ads themselves. But with cambridge analytica, their data that was supposed to be used for a simple ad has been used for politics. People who didn't even use the app and didn't agree to it also got their data sold to a third party because the system Facebook had in place before 2015 was fairly stupid. The other point that is fairly alarming is the lack of transparency. They knew back in 2015 that the data was misused, but they didn't notify they users because they thought the data was deleted and nobody would have to know. That's unprofessional and irresponsible. Regardless of if the case is closed or not, you have a responsibility to inform the users. What they did is akin to children not telling the truth to their mother because they think she will never learn about whatever they did. If a company gets hacked and the credit card/passwords were compromised, you will receive an e-mail. If your data gets misued, you should receive an e-mail too. How can people be expected to trust Facebook with anything else in the future if they hid the truth one time? Maybe they do other things with your data. I don't think Facebook is being evil, I just think they made a stupid mistake. But at least get yout facts straight when you're complaining about people complaining.

This is probably the most accurate explanation I've seen. Everyone else just seems to be following the mob mentality completely unaware of the truth.

No, he’s too busy wondering what the heck did he get all worked up for after realizing he would be fielding questions from mentally handicapped senior citizens

The mentally handicapped citizens have the power to fuck up your business.

Opinion: A big deal is being made if it to provide a smokescreen for the real issue - President Obama's Chief Data Scientist saying that FB much later _allowed_ the Obama campaign to do the same thing. Which, if it is determined that this consensual rule-breaking had monetary value, is a violation of federal law.

People accept being short, fat or one-legged, but not stupid. apparently no one can be stupid anymore, it's politically incorrect. Given that, how can you explain democrats seeing memes on FB and voting for Trump? You can't call them stupid as it'll hurt their ego. so we say they were victimized by a high tech psy op driven by block chain AI in the cloud with deep analytics. That shit is so bad it works on very smart people, such as democrats who vote for Trump.

Microsoft 20% raise Apr 11, 2018

I don't think there were many Dems voting Trump. There were many Dems who followed the "Bernie or bust" meme and didn't show up to the polls.

Because it's not jews. We got upset about this when we heard about it on Blind over a year ago.
