TC: 200k Base: 150k Rent: 1.4K Utilities: 350 Food: 700 Projects: 200 Tesla Model 3: 39.9k Auto Insurance: 80 Parking: 50-75 Been WFH all the way. Current company may adopt hybrid, so I need my own car instead of using my gfs car. Used Toyota Honda seems to be really low on inventory and overpriced Am I able to afford the $550/mo loan payments? Living in Boston area. Edit: Should I pay 10k more for the long range model with AWD, since Boston has nasty winters. But I only need to drive 15 mins (10 miles) to work some days of the week.

What etnicity do you perceive to be the smartest when working in U.S. company?
It's not about the miles, it's about smiles! If it brings you smile, just buy it. You are too young, I did the same thing!
People will ask you to invest in SPY. When you are 60, what are you going to remember? That SPY trade you made or the Tesla you drove? Not everything needs to investment, it's fine to have some depreciating asset if you love it!
Get Model S instead, please
Model S is twice the price of model 3!
Twice the fun
Yes you can. Though one thing I’ve realized over the last 15 years is that buying a new car is the single worst investment one can ever do. Paying premium amount for a depreciating asset.
With that money, you can get a c class Mercedes, a Lexus IS or ES, a bmw series 3 etc. Or you can save money and just buy a new Camry (there’s hybrids) which require little to no maintenance and will always have second hand demand. Sure you can afford it. Why not?
OP can have BMW 5 series CPO with M sport
Yea I wonder why I was so keen on Tesla. Actually want a Corvette C7 but it’s hard to drive it during the many winter months
You should get a c7 but it’s waaaaay less practical than a model 3
I bought model 3s for me and my wife on 400k TC. Fun to drive and totally worth. Get the AWD for 10k more. Tesla with RWD will slip all the time and the range is shit. Have range anxiety for 150 miles roundtrip.
Just make sure that no one envy you. For example, the neighbors and your managers.
Why would anyone envy a Tesla model 3, otherwise known as the sf Bay Area Honda Civic?
Maybe because it’s Boston and not SF? Have not been out on the streets these 2 years, are there many model 3 in MA?
1) From a pure financial perspective, a common, and safe mathematical approach is that your financial obligations should not be more than 33% of your gross income. So for your case this would be around $4,125/mo, which you’d still be under. 2) As a person who’s taken the hit on multiple new cars over the years, I do agree with others that buying a new car is horrible because of depreciation; that said, Teslas, and any other vehicles the support the OTA updates, can retain more value over time as updates enable new features or capabilities. Because FSD is getting more expensive with time and new features, this means cars that purchased FSD 3 years ago for example, their depreciation would be countered somewhat by the value of FSD increasing. Additionally, if you’re able to, I’d encourage you to talk to a dealership and about any inventory they have offering incentives rather than just ordering online. In most cases as of lately, the incentive is that the car comes with unlimited supercharging. (This stays with the car, not the owner). While it may not be drastic, this can also help a Tesla retain more value. These cars are usually cancelled orders after the car had already been finished mostly or completely. I did this when we bought our Model X last year. It makes road trips cheaper. :) 3) Don’t listen to others about suggesting other cars. there’s a magic when you drive a Tesla that just isn’t there with other electric cars, hybrids or ICE vehicles. You’ll never want to drive a normal car again. The only exception I’d say for this, at least for me, without driving it yet myself, might be the new Ford Lightning. It looks like it has some potential. 4) Yes, opt for the AWD long range.
I agree on all points except Tesla are best car or per se Model 3 is best and you should not go for ICE. The interior is pretty cheap of Tesla Model 3. For a CPO of BMW or Mercedes with less money than new Tesla SR+, the interior will be way superior and driving experience is also great if you go for Merc AMG or BMW M sport. If electric is future, why not enjoy the awesome ICE cars till we can with awesome interior. Or if you really need Tesla and EV magic, take Tesla Model S! Model 3 build quality is cheap and not great being very honest here! I hated Tesla blind spot detection not on the mirror and no heads-up display, everything in center console is not great, seats are not that awesome and can't even adjust headrest.
I’m in a Model X, so I can’t really speak to the interior quality of the Model 3. That said, I’ve heard anecdotally that Teslas in general have thin/cheap paint, leading what seems like a decent number of people to do things like ceramic coatings or wraps. So that is something worth considering. I do agree having only the front passenger seat headrest be adjustable seems ridiculous. I have the captain’s chair setup so I’m not sure if the bench style ones are adjustable… I mostly find it odd that given the driver and passenger seat should be identical, even if you are going to be weird and have only one of the front seat headrests be adjustable, why the heck wouldn’t it be the driver one?? Lol I haven’t asked, but if it were possible to swap my driver seat or get an headrest installed, I would.
I recommend getting the extended range because you'll get more range anxiety with a shorten range. If you're a person who likes to take road trips, it's probably not the best car to get for it, but I guess you do have another car for that.
