Can I drive on my valid India licence in US?

Been in the US 8 months now and haven't gotten around getting my license yet. Can I still drive using my valid indian license? DMV website says that I can drive if I am a visitor but need to get a license if I am a resident - not sure how "resident" is defined. I am currently on L1A visa. TC: 300k

Varies state to state. I think u can upto a year. But why not get a DL?

Yes, in some states you can drive for one year with indian license. Example is Michigan. Some states don't allow this, for example Ohio. So it's state specific

Yea you are a resident. Assuming you're in CA, You can't drive anymore, you can use an out of state license to drive only for a fixed time (something like 3 or 6 months). You need to get a CA license now.

It depends on the state. In Massachusetts, you can drive using a none-US license for a year starting from the date of your latest borderline security stamp.

You need to test for, and receive a license. You are not currently in compliance with the law, and will have issues if you have an accident, even if youā€™re not at fault. ā€œUnder California law, a person who stays in the state for other than a temporary or transitory purpose is a legal resident, subject to California taxation. ... Vacations or brief transactions, such as signing a contract or giving a speech, constitute temporary or transitory purposes that do not confer residencyā€

Prima facie evidence of residency for driver licensing purposes includes, but is not limited to, the following: (A) Address where registered to vote. (B) Payment of resident tuition at a public institution of higher education. (C) Filing a homeownerā€™s property tax exemption. (D) Other acts, occurrences, or events that indicate presence in the state is more than temporary or transient.

CA vehicle code defines nonresident based on the individual's state of domicile which is defined as: "the state where a person has his or her true, fixed, and permanent home and principal residence and to which he or she has manifested the intention of returning whenever he or she is absent."

Please learn your stateā€™s driving laws before you start driving. So many foreigners (and citizens as well) I know donā€™t know basic stuff, such as not cruising in the left lane or knowing when to yield.

šŸ˜”that left lane driver going at speed limit gets me every time. Left is for passing.

Roku cruella Oct 30, 2019

U do realise that speed limit applies to all lanes. And that they use the word limit literally and it's not meant as an advice.

You do realize that unless you are a black or middle eastern dude, you are fine going up to 9 miles above speed limit?

The real question is _CAN_ you drive ?

Netflix the.oa Oct 30, 2019

8 months? Nope. Youā€™re expired. Get to the DMV.
