Hi there, I have a year of experience at a company I would like to leave out of my resume? I have 8 years of experience, and this year i want to leave off was 5 years ago. The main reason is towards the end of my tenure there, I didn't get along as with the manager well and i also gave less than a week notice. I saw this previous manager at Google and is concern that somehow he would give me a bad recommendation.

Would this raise a gap concern or come up in my background check?

The advice here so far is sound, but wanted to add that your résumé does not need to be comprehensive of your entire work history.

It’s a tool to tell your story and at the end of the day, “being continuously employed” is not as important of a plot point compared to things you’ve accomplished and the value you can bring to an organization. This mindset makes any gap easily explainable if asked too.

That said, I also don’t think you need to omit this gig if there are relevant qualifications that add to your story.

Oh okay that's good to know. I was worry that if a background check come back with an extra company and i don't have that on my resume, it could cause issues.

If it was 5 years ago, as a hiring manager I wouldn't reach out to that person for a reference unless the candidate explicitly recommended them to reach out to, or I already knew them personally. I think you could leave it on.

If you had that bad manager 5 years ago, there is a good chance you might not need him as a reference? I wouldn’t leave a gap for that. You can always be honest about it rather than hide it.
