In California, can a new employer ask to see (after the new offer is signed) any other companies offer letters? Is it legal?
They can ask. But generally, once u have accepted thier offer...thier job is done ...so nobody will ask. However, even if someone asks (before accepting or after accepting offer), you have every right to refuse, saying that it is confidential. So just politely refuse, but share the excerpts such as sal breakup.
Sharing the sal breakup is aslo your choice. You can choose to share it only verbally, but then it gives a bit less credibility to ur case.
How can asking for offer letter be legal if asking for your current salary is not? What prevents them for asking you the offer letter of your current job?
In my case, although they didn’t specifically ask me to show my offer letter, but they asked me to show proof that I need to return my sign on bonus at my previous company because I am leaving in less than a year. Happens to be that the info was only on my offer letter so I had to show it to them. But before I shared, I blacked out the other info like my salary and stuff.
And when u had shown that...did they increase ur offer by said sign on additionally?
Yeah. They said they would payback any sign on that I have to return because they knew I was leaving before a year. At Apple there’s a specific term for this which I don’t remember anymore. It’s kinda like a separate pay on top of the sign on bonus.
No
Sure they can ask. It's up to you to disclose

Offer letters are often kept confidential. If any other employer is asking for them they're being an ass
