Is spending 12K per month normal or too much
Recently I got admitted to a university ranked in the range 30-40 for MS CS in US. Also, there are high chances of getting funding for half of my program. From my previous interview experience for SDE 1 positions at reputed companies, I think that proficiency in DS Algorithms along with clear basics of OS, DBMS, and networking is enough to crack SDE 1 interviews. To prepare for that, I think it's not necessary to do an MS in CS (please correct me if I am wrong here). If I feel that I might enjoy studying Business Analytics more than CS, then can I do that and still become an SDE at FAANG? I will also be able to get a better ranked university as I guess admission to BA is not as competitive as CS. Does top companies SDE role prefer or require MS CS grads? Pick the major that interests you the most not the one that you think will help you land a FAANG job (it probably won't). But in the US college rank doesn't matter beyond ivy league institutions. And in tech specifically it matters far less than for other majors. If you are from an ivy league college, their reputation may help you land an interview but after that it's on you to turn that into a job offer. It doesn't make any difference if you graduate from a 39th ranked uni vs 49th ranked uni reputation wise. Graduated from a uni ranked in the 60s, have lots of my school friends in FAANG. I myself get calls for interviews every year from FB/Google/Amazon etc starting the year I graduated.
Honestly I don't think it matters for ivy league colleges as well.
Yup.
