Can startup sponsor H1B when only paying stocks ?

Have a friend considering taking a job as a PM at a startup that does not offer any salary, only offers stock. Q: has anyone heard of H1B denials / approvals for such scenarios ? I know that there is a minimum pay requirement for H1B visas, not sure how paper-only stock would work with that.

How do they plan to pay their bills without any salary? By burning their savings? This startup seems shady.

Savings, yes. The terms are clear, so there isnt any shaidiness.

AFAIK, you need salary money in a visa application. Stocks/paper money don’t count for that

Ah, you made me realize that I could probably checked in the visa application itself. and you are correct they say exclude all non cash items in salary calculations
