TC - 340k. Yoe - 9 years Looking for better opportunities. No issues at the current job. I dont want to go through the interview grind of a company without knowing they can at least give a TC of 400k. Is there an option to state my expectations upfront or will it be considered unprofessional?
Yes recruiters like it if you give your ballpark which is the whole purpose of the call.
Recruiter here. You should absolutely share your comp expectations up front. It's incredibly helpful for both you and the recruiting / hiring team to all be on the same page about money from the start. A good recruiter can then tell you things like what level you'd need to be approved at in order to get what you want - or let you know if it's not likely that you'd get what you want at their company, to avoid wasting time.
Anyone who shares comp expectations upfront is an idiot. Only share expected level.
I disagree (and not just as a recruiter trying to close candidates - I'd share my own comp expectations up front if I was looking to change roles.) It makes the whole process so much simpler, because then I also get a chance to find out early if this company / role can meet my needs.
You can do that. It will restrict your eventual negotiating range in the absence of competing offers, though
Problem is if you say 400, they will hold you to that number
I take a slightly different approach. I know the comp ranges by level everywhere I want to go and make sure the job “has enough scope to justify my expected level”. Avoids the “400” trap while avoiding wasting everyone’s time when they can’t afford you. A lot harder to do outside the big techs. hth
This. For me it’s “I am targeting L7. Is that in scope for this requisition?”
400k for 9 years exp, Are you in hardware, is this for real
I believe OP’s tc is with stock appreciation. There is no way any HW company will offer 400k for 9 yoe. Unless some very special skills are involved .
Exactly, I don’t think any hardware company can give 300+ for 9 years experience, even at Apple , they start low and slowly with refreshers and appreciation you build it up, OP should stick to current place
What do you do at Broadcom op?
