Can you use PTO for final week before quitting, and start working at new job?

want to use 1 week of pto to remain at current job to receive bonus. but want to start new job during this one week of pto. would it be illegal or allowed?

I’m pretty sure in your paperwork for signing on you agree you won’t be working for another company. So I don’t think it’s illegal but I think it definitely breaks company policy.

It’s not illegal. You probably can, just like you can give a week’s notice if you want. Personally, I wouldn’t do it, since you usually get PTO paid out.

They could just fire you and not give you the bonus, depending on your contract and location

Our VP took a month of PTO then left lol

Hey, just going out to get a cig, brb

It is legal but the company can also ask you to leave and pay out the PTO. They don’t need to pay the bonus. Why would they keep you on their payroll when you don’t intend to be back.

I’m Leaving in good terms and putting in some hard work before I leave. So we aren’t out to get each other

Sounds like you should just try to push your start date out at the new gig and get paid the PTO + bonus. Alternatively it’s pretty common to use the bonus at your old job as a negotiating tactic for a signing bonus or a bit of a salary bump.
