Can you work at two companies at same time ?

I have an offer from new company and I am about to join, but I will miss my bonus at current company. Can I be on paper at current company be on vacation until I get bonus and start working at new company while I am on leave at current company. I am not on visa, so not to worry about status. Is that a possibility or any legal issues can happen ? Did anyone ever do that ?

Ask the HR at the respective companies.

There are no legal issues unless you are on a work visa

Read your employment contracts. There’s likely language in both explaining you cannot. You should have negotiated with the new company to give a signing bonus to cover the bonus you’re leaving at the old company.

Good idea! Mental note for next time

Ask eBay employees about the bonus policy. Maybe there is a policy. For example: employee has to be employed at year end for bonus distribution. Or employee has to be currently employed for bonus to be paid out, etc. it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out in a large company like yours. Good luck!

Illegal

Read the employment handbook and and confidentiality and non-compete agreement you signed. Some companies allow you to do it as long as it doesn't create conflict of interest.

Watch out because background checks can catch this if it’s against company policy

Background check for new company always happens while you are still employed at current company. No one quits their job and then initiate background check at new company.

I know a bunch of people who did. Nothing bad happened. I think it’s better to work your ass in one tier 1 company.

Or ask to delay the joining date
