I just can’t handle it anymore. Been at amazon for over a year and I’ve been feeling very burnt out recently. I see people quitting left and right or switching to other teams. I’ve been working like 16 hour days and writing textbook’s worth of documentation everyday, none of which gets read. Whenever I get to code, it’s like a once in a lifetime opportunity. Management is rude and unappreciative. I dread going to work each day. What should I do? I have done a lot for this team and am a top performer. I want to switch internally but am not sure if this is the right time since reviews are just around the corner and I am expecting good reviews. Is waiting for it worth it? I can’t handle it anymore... What’s a good team to switch to? Good WLB and good learning opportunities. Or should I switch externally? I have been so burnt out and stressed that I don’t have time to review and study for interviews. I have a kid at home so any free time I get is spent with the kid. The whole team is managed by fear and no one dares to take a single day off in fear of being pip’d. I have two dependents so I have to keep that in mind. WLB is so bad that people on the team don’t even have time to go home and spent time with their kids and family. I feel like I am drowning and have no escape path..
Quit or internal transfer. There aee a lot of good wlb teams
Hm you should change your account verification so we know this is actually an amazon employee and not msft
Grass was greener, wasn’t it ?
What team/org is this?
Your body is telling you to leave. Listen to it.
anyone in your team working less than 8 hours?
No, people usually join, get burnt out, leaves a ton of tech debt, and leaves team. Next person that picks it up gets it twice as bad.
Move back to msft😂
Several orgs in AWS have good wlb and culture. Others work long hours but build really cool things. Others are ops heavy, but great for career growth. What's your role and what org are you in now, and what are you looking for?
It is good to hear that you become a top performer and contribute, but you also realize this is not sustainable. Just work 8 hrs and resist if anyone says work harder. No one should burn your health
I will instantly get PIP’d....
Yeah, the secret to surviving is to not really give a shit. If you're overworking this much, you need to put on your big boy/big girl pants and tell your manager to suck it. If you're this scared of getting PIP'd, just transfer teams for fucks sake. This isn't hard.
