I don’t feel that I can trust my team. People are nice on the surface but my gut tells me I can’t trust them. There were incidents to support my gut feelings but not clear cut. It caused me a lot of stress and anxiety to always look behind my back. Just wanted to vent and some useful advice if possible. Thanks Blind community.
Stop being paranoid, life is too short!
Don't stress yourself too much. If you are not happy, you shouldn't stay there. If you get negative vibes from your teammates, there must be something that's causing it. Were there any red flags when you interviewed with them?
No, didn’t sense anything off then. :(
I had the same feeling too. Like talking about the bugs they found in my CRs during stand-up. Basically to put others down to show that they are smarter. I am looking to switch team, because I feel that this culture will be bad for my career.
We have folks who ask us to replace other people's problem in our CR, totally unrelated. And hold our CR hostage for a week at a time.
There is an L5 on my team that thinks he is the team leader. He does this to me constantly. Talks about all the problems I caused and how we can prevent it from happening again. He then triesv to cheapen the blow by saying "oh I saw that X did the same thing." This is a team that is heavy on L6 and 7.
Tell the admin. He'll ban them
Feel this lately as well
If unhappy look for new opportunities life is too short
I have the same feeling about my current team. They seem nice on the surface and chat with me like everything is fine, but I can't shake the feeling that they don't like me and are talking about me behind my back. I'm interviewing with other companies and looking to jump ship. I would suggest you do the same - whether that is moving teams or companies only you can decide. But a toxic work environment is bad for your health - physical and mental. Take care of yourself.
Is this your first job / team? Have you felt the same way about other previous teams? What's different about this team.
Not my first job or team. And no, I haven't felt this about other teams. Other individual people, yes. But not a team. The major difference with this team is their overwhelming concern with what I'm doing throughout the day - what I'm working on, who I'm meeting with, how many hours I'm in the office, etc. As well as their need to share what they're doing and how busy they are. I find it very bizarre. They also keep bringing up the fact that I'm finishing up my second Master's degree - a pet project of mine - like its a bad thing.
If that is what you feel or what your gut tells you, it is valid. You don't have to accept it is real now, sometime down the road you will know to trust your gut. It just takes you more time or more incidents to trust your first gut feelings.
