Lack of diversity in engineering division at X
Education- MS in Computer science YOE: 5.5 in US Senior Associate Software Engineer Location- Chicago Base- 116K Sign on/relocation - 10K No stocks/RSUs Annual bonus target- 5k-6k average Current TC - 133K ( SDE-II ) Current location- Portland, OR It’s clearly low-balled. any tips or thoughts for negotiation? Thanks #offer #career #tech
You could blacklist this company.
What you need to do is grind leetcode and get a offers at better companies.
They’re pegging you at a level below what you should be asking for. You’d want a principal associate position which is the equivalent of SDE2. The senior associate is somewhere around 2-3 YOE
I can confirm this.
Yep, PA is the level where you’ll get an offer you’d like.
They are not on hiring freeze?
I guess it’s team specific.
Ah okay, good luck with the negotiations 👍🏻
What the heck is a Senior Associate level? That’s crazy
According to recruiter, it’s Mid-senior level role at Capital One.
Eh, not even that.. it's the equivalent of an entry level software engineer. The range won't go very high and the bonus isn't great at that level. If you have 2-3 yoe or are a weak developer it's usually where they put you. Op, if you were initially asking for more money and have the experience you say you do it's likely you didn't do well on the interview. At least one person raised concerns but the recruiter and hiring manager are still fighting for you. So they had a consensus meeting and agreed on a lower position to satisfy the dissenters. I see this happen all the time.
New grads at cap one make 99K base.....
That's inaccurate
Pretty sure new TDP / software engineers in McLean make 99K
The is a whackbooty offer
I agree with most commenters here, also cost of living from Portland to Chicago... I gotta be honest, you very likely fucked up your interview. At least one person saw a red flag. Capital One is a lot of things, but cheap isn't one of them. Can you share how the interview went?
Crazy comment
You messed up at interviews. I was offered Sr Software Engineer with less than 2yrs exp and masters
They lower the position for messing up interviews? Or just reject?
Why are they offering you even less than your current TC? Unless you’ve some issues with your current job, Give them the number that you want and let them deal with it.
Agree. No issues with current job. What would be good offer considering my case in your opinion?
I would start at $200k, and not go below $180k if they push back. If they don’t value your skills, they’ll probably decline. And you can move on.
