Capital One: Business Analyst vs. Strategy Associate

Federal Reserve Bank of New York / Finance s.r.morgan

I am considering applying for a position at Capital One and was wondering if anyone could speak to the differences between these two roles. It appears to me that business analysts get exposed to all the inner functions while strategy associates deal with higher-level issues and strategic initiatives at the top-level, but I was hoping someone could expand on that. Also, what is the overall prestige of the two positions (compared to each other and to the industry as a whole)? Also curious about salary differences, exit ops, etc. Since I can apply to just one, I’m trying to get a better idea of what’s right for me and what the better opportunity is.

Also, does anyone know of similar positions at other companies in the DC area? The finance scene here is relatively limited and I don’t want to limit my scope to just Capital One.

Thank you!

    I love people!
I’d go with a strategy associate role. Business analysts are cogs in the machine while strategy associates help determine where the cogs should be placed. In strategy you are going to do some business analysis type work too. Plus you get more visibility.

They do similar stuff. The analyst path is the clear winner due to the culture although strategy you start closer to the top, but are always cuhck vs analyst who eventually get to run stuff.
