Beautiful campus. I have heard from others generally good things.
For perspective. PM in NY TC is 180-220 with 2-8 YOE if that’s helpful in comparison
I know a lot of folks in Plano. Great location. Go for it!
Was in Richmond, pretty laid back and definitely more interesting work than the government contracting I was used to. But 100k is what TDPs make. If you're just starting out that's probably fine, especially for Plano. I got offered $105k + 10k with 8 yoe though thinking there'd be a lot of room to grow but it was the same dumpster fire as everywhere else I've ever been.
I joined Capital One fresh out of college as part of the TDP in 2014. I was there 2 years. Culture is pretty laid back on most teams. I got a hugr raise my first year (from 68k to 80k). My subsequent raises were smaller. COL there is pretty low. I was working mostly on legacy stuff but you can transfer to a team that’s doing more interesting work. A lot of my friends moved to MacLean for more interesting projects... I left for Silixon Valley because I found Plano/Dallas a bit boring.
I do want to add that the people are nice in general and the campus was pretty good. The on-site cafeteria was an underrated benefit...
How many years of experience do you have? You can probably negotiate that up 5-10k if you have >2 years of experience. The campus is beautiful. Good food in the cafeterias. People are nice in general. Most managers encourage joining employee interest groups like Hispanics in tech or women in tech or lgbt in tech. As far as negatives, it seems like a lot of teams are hiring contractors though which can negatively impact morale. Workwise, the teams are mostly focused on their “Financial Services” org which is all the auto loans related products. There are definitely some interesting sectors within that space. Bonus depends on your level and is based on your performance in relation to your peers.
What level is the offer for? Senior Associate, Principal Associate or Master/Manager level? Annual raises are 2-3% with a strong (average) rating could be up to like 5% with the highest rating. Promotion raise depends on where you are on the pay band for your level but is usually around 10-12%. Bonus for strong rating is like 5-6k for SA and 9k for PA and I’d guess around 13-15k for master/manager. Culture and work varies by org and team. For C1 the orgs with the biggest budget and some of the more interesting work IMO are in the Card division but I don’t think they have teams in Plano I’m not entirely sure what teams sit in Plano for SWE. Growth opportunities are going to be dependent on the team and your management. Your relationship with your manager and skip level will play a big role in your growth at C1. Hope that helps and congrats on the offer.
+1
It's not a very pleasant experience. Been here for 2.5 years and growth is very difficult because most of the leaders are in Richmond. Exposure is difficult. Constantly worried about mid/end of year lays offs because of their forced distribution policy and that 10% of employees must be laid off. I would skip this offer if you have others
Do they lay off every year end? Is it mostly performance based?
