Would love to understand more from current employees how your experience is at Capital One. Would you recommend it to your friends? Thanks in advanced!
Depends on the job family you're looking to join. If you're an analyst or engineer then as a lateral hire you'll always play second fiddle to college hires (all else equal. No exceptions). The bias is baked into the appraisals process -- I've seen it for my own associates during promo discussions. That in itself may not be a deal breaker, and there may be just cause for this bias, but I wouldn't recommend to a friend. Support functions don't have as stark a power play, but then they don't have decision making authority anyway. (I'm an analyst in Mclean)
Can you expand more on why others are second fiddle to college hires?
This^
Yep! But not as a new grad - it's the great work/life balance job with great benefits you need when you are starting to settle down. I especially like the formal coaching mentality that all people managers go through (I've been through a few bosses, all excellent mentors/coaches) & great training programs on how to be a good manager/people leader once promoted too. I work in the flatiron offices(tech only) in NY.
Is it mostly ML coders in the Flatiron office?
Nope! There's some Enterprise teams(dealing with making transactions clearer), commercial Bank tech, a bunch of people from consumer bank, and some card/CML.
Absolutely. Great pace of work. Love the individual contributor/distinguished engineer career track.
Yes, I would recommend it. I have fun and it still challenges me.
Unfortunately I would not
Hate working here. Leaving soon
I have had several ideas stolen from me by leaders
Expound on that. Did they like your idea and propose the team work on it?
No.
Richmond office dev checking in. While it's not the most high-paying, It's the most stress-free job I've ever had. Great w/l balance, room for growth
Solid recommend. There have been some growing pains associated with huge growth in associate count over past five-six years, but feels like things are stabilizing/catching up. you need to adapt well to change to thrive here. As others have stated, there is an individual contributor path that permit going all the way up to VP level. To be fair, there are not a ton of distinguished engineers around, but have seen more growth in that area recently. Concerted effort surrounding upping the people leadership skillset over past 2+ years, which has been nice to see. We are not afraid to look at/implement bleeding edge technology, but need to learn to go a little slower initially to go faster in the long run. Benefits are good, work life balance is decent.
Whoa! Now I, too, wanna join this company that you're talking about.
Nicely said! C1b is a hater ?
I’m at the McLean office and ya I enjoy it here.
