how often should the oil be changed on a Mercedes GLA? i see conflicting things online (and when i asked my mechanic). they said to do it either every 6 mos or 5k miles, whichever is first. thanks! #car #cars #mercedesbenz
Depends on your TC. TC and YoE?
If you are lucky your car manual would have the correct oil change schedule. If you are not - you'll see the same shenanigans as me - "Your car is equipped with an oil quality sensor and will notify you when it's time for an oil change". My first and only oil change (after the "oil live" went under 10%) happened at 7000 miles. Whether the dealership can mess with it to bring me back sooner remains to be seen.
Thanks for the reply, seems like asking this on blind seems inappropriate or bragging to most 😆

Thanks!
Mileage matters more than time. Synthetic oil doesn’t degrade on the scale of months.
Check car owner manual !!!
Here goes nothing: I worked at a Tier 1 doing among other things engine durability testing for a couple brands, so I know a bit about this, although I don’t know how they set up their oil life monitor. 1) Heat degrades oil. Run too cold and you’ll eat your bearings, but run too hot and you’ll break down a number of things in the oil. What this means is that if you do something that the car is designed for, but which isn’t a normal use, specifically a day of autocross, change the oil ASAP, no matter how long it’s been. A spirited canyon drive is normal, a track day is not. 2) Miles. We all know this one. Just do what your OEM says here. More often wouldn’t hurt, so do it a bit early if you’re concerned, but they want the drivetrain to outlive your interest in the car, and have done a lot of testing to make this happen. They are not secretly plotting for your engine to wear out in 100k miles by stretching your oil service interval. 3) Time. It isn’t so much that the oil breaks down with time (it doesn’t really), but that there are other issues with cars that only take short trips, are driven infrequently, etc. A lot of these have to do with combustion byproducts, including water, getting in there. Don’t drive long enough (30 minutes or so) and you don’t really warm everything up enough to get all the moisture boiled out, and trace amounts of water in the oil are bad all around.
Interesting response, thanks for the help I appreciate it 😊

Would you trust your mechanic or strangers on Blind? Or was this all just a humblebrag to waste everyone’s time?
Rofl, this guy’s having a rough Monday 😂
I with i could find reliable info on how often to change the oil in my Rolls. Does anyone know? My butler says I should do it every 6 months. My other butler says 8. My helicopter pilot says annually. Help me Blind, I just don’t know what to do. #car #cars #carss #ineedanewstaff #firstworld #problems
