People at Careem: Are you concerned about layoffs once the uber-careem deal is closed? https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/14/uber-lays-off-another-350-across-eats-self-driving-and-other-departments/
Hey look, another one!
He’s gotta be too old now for pro b-ball.
The hell he is! LISTEN, KID! I've been hearing that crap ever since he was at UCLA. He's out there busting his buns every night.
No one at careem here anyway 😂
I’ve met one girl here who works at Careem
Interesting how do you know if she is a girl?
ca·reen (kə-rēn′) v. ca·reened, ca·reen·ing, ca·reens v.intr. 1. a. To lurch or swerve while in motion: "The Tasmanian boat was a wreck ... the stove had broken free of its mounting and was careening about with every wave"
Careem is a separate entity so this doesn't really affect it
That is not lay-off protection. Don’t fool yourself
It won't be called lay-off. They would call "consolidating & streamlining" the two entities. 🙂
Not really concerned. Even if, a bit slimming down doesn't hurt :-)
It's been great here, but yeah, Uber influence will not be a good thing. Need to start looking for a place to jump from now.
How is the tech and culture?
The tech is not very great if you compare to google of course, but it's improving a lot right now. The problem with the culture is the diversity on some (or almost all?) of the teams. Majority of the people are from Pakistan and India, they're nice and I personally don't have any problem with them, it's just suck to not understand the casual conversation that's happening in the office. It makes the outsider feels very insignificant.
Culture has changed quite a lot, after the deal. Looking for a switch too.
For the record There are lay-offs In fact some heavy layoffs where VPs, MDs and Directors were asked to let go around 20% of the head count under the name of performance review. So many political lay-offs And many people who are really top talent consciously resigned when this shit happened
can i have more insight on the same ?
This can go both ways. Remove the extra weight from Careem, or keep it because it is cheaper than its US equivalent. There will be challenges both ways.
