Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
Hi Blind Community! I need some career advice. I'm a little lost on direction. Worried about TC vs Effort. I'm someone with a Masters in Industrial Engineering. With about 2.5 full-time YOE in F&B Manufacturing. Right after my Masters I started off with a no name company. Worked there, impressed folks, moved around from an internship to a lead to a couple of engineering roles all in about 3 years. I hit saturation both in terms of learning and salary. I interviewed amid pandemic and got a Manager role in the Midwest and a Process engineer role in the Bay Area, both for CPG related companies.(Tried Amazon, long shot on a remotely related role and no luck).I took the Engineer role in July for personal reasons and also to surrounding myself with a good community of engineering friends. The firm is a coffee chain and has got some good potential but bad culture and uninspiring leadership. What I have: - Some good relevant Certifications(more in pipeline), - Projects in: Supply Chain Data Analytics, Process Improvement in Manufacturing, Digital Transformation in Manufacturing, Some capital projects exposure -Leadership experience I'm currently trying to convert my engineering role into a leadership role with the company. I work 50-60 hours a week including time spent on learning. However, this doesn't seem to be something that will yield high TC. Partly due to the standard pay in F&B being low and partly due to the non tech aspect of my role. I'm worried if I'm making the right move targeting a leadership role with a company with bad culture and poor org. structure. I want to see myself leading a business org. down the lane and keep telling myself that this work will pay-off in a couple of years and bad culture is not necessarily toxic culture(Will it though?) Examples of bad culture: Poor support groups like HR, Leadership with unrealistic deadlines, Super high turn-over due to the above mentioned, Low pay, Poor WLB for some business orgs. I can alternately do this: -Look for a little high paying jobs in retail operations/Manufacturing: Walmart, Albertsons, Wineries up north etc.,. in the Bay Area. - Look to switch to Management Consulting role with my combination of skills. Not sure about the feasibility though. Interesting to hear thoughts. - Go #TeamBlind and chase Apple, Tesla, Amazon Manf Program Manager roles and remotely related roles in tech companies. - Suck it up and make sure things work out at my current employer and continue focus on learning despite the poor pay. Any thoughts appreciated! I know I'm only 5 months in but sometimes you can see things coming. Hence, the planning ahead and Blind reachout.
