Career options for spouse on H4 EAD

My wife has 5yr experience in Recruiting in India. She moved to US and took a 6yr career break due to Visa Issues and maternity. For the past 6-8 months she has been applying for recruiter roles in start-up/small/mid/large companies but not getting any interview calls. This is probably coz she has no US experience or a big gap in her career. She has tried networking, joining women in tech groups but not much help. She is dis-appointed and depressed. What are her options TC : 210k Bay Area

What degree does she hold? Is that respected or even considered in US for HR/recruitment? If not, there must be certifications or evaluations to rate your out-of-US degree. Is that her passion? I don't understand why you even have changing the career as a poll option unless she is okay with doing something other than what she loves to. Stay on path of what you love and strive hard to achieve that. 6 years is too long of a break in any country. Start off something as an intern or part-time or volunteer to get actual US work experience.

1) Having any job (or full time volunteer activity) would help close the resume gap. 2) What step is she getting stuck on? If she isn’t getting interviews with her resume then find someone who specializes there. If she’s getting phone screens but not follow ups then have her work on being easily understandable by native US speakers. Some Indians I can understand clear as anyone. Others I have to concentrate to get past the accent. Other FOBs I’ve spoken to think these two people sound the same, but I wouldn’t hire someone I can’t understand. 3) Getting back in after a long break always sucks, see item 1.

Ask her to do some volunteer work - this will help her build some skills and connections. Also, doing some online certifications and some certifications in HR like PHR, SPHR etc. will help.

Lol how is an MBA remotely relevant to being a recruiter? Shocked that this would be a suggestion.

She eventually wants to work in HR

OP since she’s a recruiter and you’re working at Apple you should know that applications without referrals are just going to get thrown in the trash. I’m not surprised at all she hasn’t been considered applying online. I would recommend building a network. Maybe meetups, conferences.

I’m sorry but she doesn’t sound someone very passionate about career or job. Anyone with a care will never consider a 6 years break acceptable. Anyhow if she wants to get back into workforce now, she will have to be patient with realistic expectations and keep trying. Accept non-pay volunteering jobs to build experience, apply for contractor roles etc. In the meantime, upskill as a lot changes in 6 years.
