Buying from dealer or individual?

Dealer bmw

SAP +1Alien Dec 30, 2019

Oohh, that explains it. If you’re ready to pull the trigger tomorrow (=fiscal year end), you should come up with an almost obscene counteroffer. But be prepared for their tactics to wear you down and also be ready to walk away at any point. In fact, also be careful with the “extras” they will try to tack on after agreeing the price. Many dealers make totally useless things sound indispensable or compulsory.

X4 is pretty small, last year I bought a 2016 528 (previous model) for 27K with 29k miles is a bigger, more comfortable car. If you’re set on the x4 get the extended warranty, being a BMW you’ll likely need it and will be thankful for it.

Amazon live-on OP Dec 30, 2019

Thank you. Does it cost a lot to add extended warranty ? 528 is a sedan right ?

Hashtag fail

Amazon live-on OP Dec 30, 2019

Sorry about that. Never really used them

SAP +1Alien Dec 30, 2019

Hashtag fail if you fail to maintain according to mfg recommend schedule, yes. Also, be prepared for pricey maintenance

Google Ben Dover. Dec 30, 2019

It’s a bit pricey but it’s CPO so you’ll have the peace of mind. You can get it down to 35k. Or ask them if they’re gonna put in a maintenance plan for free. Also they say CPO but would service it only at that dealer. The CPO warranty might not work at other BMW dealers. Ask them if any BMW dealership in the country would honor the warranty.

Amazon live-on OP Dec 30, 2019

Thank you for that insight. Does waiting into 2020 help in negotiating down further as the model year changes ?

SAP +1Alien Dec 30, 2019

Model year changes in a few months. Depending on how the dealership did in the year, 12/31 is a great day to field “pornographic” offers

Paying cash? Planning to finance? Asking because there are so many ways dealers can have you

Amazon live-on OP Dec 30, 2019

Finance. I qualified for bmw finance rate of 1.8% , lower than other traditional loans. Not paying cash or thinking of financing from any other bank

SAP +1Alien Dec 30, 2019

Quote with a credit union as a fallback. Otherwise you risk being victimized with the Yoyo-scam, where they call you after a few days and state the finance company rejected the loan. Then they will want you to come down and force you into a loan with a jacked up rate. Think 6-10% instead of 1.8%

Here is what you should do. Walk in to the store tomorrow and tell the dealer that you are willing to pay 32k for this car right then and there and cannot pay more than that. If they say a firm no then you should be prepared to walk. But I'm my experience they work with you. I got an Audi last year on 31st and the dealer literally have me a piece of paper and asked me to write a price and take the car.

SAP +1Alien Dec 30, 2019

Totally agree - I’d just add to be careful with the extras and fees in the Finance office, where they will have another go at making a so-so deal super profitable

This guy knows it!! Follow this advice please OP.

Not that great of a deal for 2 years old suv. Bmw depreciation is terrible, the cpo 5 series I bought had its value halved again after just one year. You are better off leasing a bmw imo if you really want bmw. I would just get a Tesla model x if I can go back.
