Hello, With 20 yoe in engineering, 14 of them in management roles and the last 6 particularly with two cto gigs under my belt (both for 200MM in revenue companies with teams over 100 and 150 people). What are my chances to be considered for a SVP roles at Salesforce or a L8 role at Amazon? I am interviewing for a L7 but hoping to land an upgrade on the onsite and the hiring manager at sfdc ia currently reviewing my resume according to the recruiter.
Not sure to be depressed or impressed that someone with this kind of experience is posting on blind.

I think it speaks to the dismal state of labor and work that we all have to use Blind to figure out what we're worth. I'm glad Blind exists given the circumstances, but I wish the circumstances were different.
L8 should be very doable.

I think L8 is possible but I believe the recruiting loop is different from L8 and above in Amazon. If so, not sure if they can upgrade you during onsite.
Yes, the loop would be very different. You should communicate your desire to be interviewed at the director level in advance.
The whole process has been odd. A recruiter reached out for a position in Austin and after two phone interviews he said I was on the L7 level and that the interviewers had passed on me (I guess because they were looking for a L6). Then he re routed me for a position in Seattle and called me to tell me “in a personal way” that they were changing the position to be better adjusted to my profile and experience.
Uplevel to L8 won't happen unless they loop you as an L8. Your previous roles, however, sound similar in scope to L7. An L8 is generally leading an 80-500 person org of their own, whereas an L7 runs a 30-80 person group as part of a larger org.
For these roles, you don’t apply. You typically get inbound requests. I have a friend who fields one cto call a week (from all over the world) but has a ton of experience and connections. Talk to headhunters as for these roles, sometimes companies hire an external firm to do the search.

Likely to get an L7. External hire L8 is tough - and given you’re looping for L7, almost impossible to get leveled up.

My very first employer (a serial startup founder/CTO) joined AWS as L8 after the sale of her previous company. She has approximately the same amount of YOE as you.
