I have an opportunity to change my current domain (Infrastructure/Developer Experience/Tools/DevOps etc) to Ads (ML engg - building infrastructure around ML) Wondering what to do? Is it good to change domain to understand the set of problems different domain has or stick to 1 domain and be an expert on it? How does this affect career growth? Which domain would be good in the longer run? Especially for FAANG? YOE: ~3 TC: 220k
It's great to do something new and change domains if it's an area that you either enjoy it pays more. However just be careful your new role is secure. It's can take a few years to get up to speed. It sucks if your new job fires you after 6 months for performance because it makes it tough to get hired in either space. From experience. 😞
Sorry to hear you had a terrible manager!

Devops is no competition for ML.
ML engineering would be kind of DevOps as well no? Have to work with Data/Research/Applied Scientist to build infrastructure around ML?
