Hi, I’m very curious. I’ve heard a lot of people criticize the current interview format at big companies, Leetcode basically.
If you had the power to change how your company would interview candidates, what would you do instead?

Talk about past projects and make it more behavioral. And only recruit from top schools and you will be fine.

  Have them submit the code and do a code comparison of past submissions. I don't think it requires more effort on the interviewer's side. Sure it requires more of the candidate but honestly if you're a prestigious company potential candidates will literally do anything to get in (as we've seen)

  It’s not about past submissions, it’s very easy for me to do a project for my friend and get him into a prestigious company. Or paying some service that specializes in these types of projects.

Ask the candidate about data structures, algorithms, operating systems, computer science fundamentals, and may be basic questions about hardware. In short, get a holistic idea about the candidate rather than laser focus on one aspect that is easily crackable

  It’s hard to ask questions that determine if someone actually understands the concepts versus just memorized. Most of the interviews I’ve seen that tried to do that failed.

  If you ask some follow up questions and dig into some scenarios around the same, you will come to know how much candidate actually knows about something.

Pair programming for 2-3 hours on a small task that company currently has.
In return give gift card to interviewee. They already spend hundreds of dollars on flight and accommodation, cost of gift card wouldn't hurt anyone.
