Long story short joined a toxic team, thinking to change but what reason should i give to new employer so as not to come as job hopper.
Just flat out say what the expectation was and you can’t cope with that. Don’t use descriptors like toxic or demanding etc
thanks for your input greatly appreciate it.. i think that way i can avoid joining teams with a culture to working 60+ hrs week...
Tell the new employer this is your personal reason. If the recruiter chase down, tell that you are looking for better company culture. Personal opinion and hope it helps :)
I lasted 3 months in my previous company, and frankly, I don't regret it. It makes for a good conversation. I said the truth when asked: what was sold to me was not what I was actually doing. Give examples, show that you've learnt from your mistake. Own it, and emphasise that you will not repeat it.
“JCPenny is on it’s way to bankruptcy. That’s why I left” Recruiters won’t say anything. Those who challenge are morons not worth your time
Don’t talk yourself into giving specific examples about the badness of the other company. That’s a waste of time and can potentially look bad on you. My default is to use the direct approach and say: “The culture at my previous company was toxic and I didn’t want to work there anymore.” However, something I would recommend is to flip the negative about the previous company into a positive for the current one: “My previous company was not a place that fostered individual growth and learning. That’s why I’m super interested in YOUR company, which I understand boasts a great mentorship program and provides opportunities like brown bags/lunch and learns to learn from other teams and employees.” Woot! Answers the question and shows your knowledge about the company you’re interviewing for. It’s a positive and future-looking perspective, which I think is a healthy one.
Great advice appreciate your inputs. Thanks.

The truth
do you think i can tell my next employer that i was expected to work weekends and nights regularly... no WLB... expected to put 12 hrs per day everyday.. wont it be considered as talking negative about previous employer... will you hire someone who gives you this reason in your team?
I would. There are many ways to say this. It is ok to want to have a work life balance. it was not a cultural fit. It is not necessarily talking negative if you sweet it
