So, I’m transferring from Pittsburgh to the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View for a research project. And holy smokes, the prices are $3.5K for 1BD. Considering 4-5 of us stay together and don’t mind the travel time of about an hour (one-side), what’s the best location for us to stay? 2BD with $500-600 per person per month is what we’re looking at. If this is an unreasonable estimate, please let me know other options at this price range. Thanks!
Check complete home rent which costs around 2500-3000$ pm and u guys split the bill..
Yeah but which locality? Any reccs?
Go to various campus. They usually have bulletins where you will find people looking for roommates. From there you can find places cheap enough for a couple ppl. Another option is go to sf and rent from chinese landlords.
you can find roommate stuff on craigslist for around 800-1100$. doesn't NASA provide some kind of housing?
Not for “students not on its payroll”.
may be try north san jose or Milpitas not too far away from NASA. rest of the areas are expensive i guess
Avalon in Mountain View has 3 bed/2 bath for ~$5k. If 6ppl share, its ~$850 per month. While still above your budget, the savings in commute time and cost will be worth it (imho).
There is a shadow rent market in Cupertino. You can get a nice bedroom in one of the $2+ million houses for $300-$600 per months. The problem is that landlords are typically Chinese so they prefer female Asian students as tenants.
how much are you getting paid?
Peanuts. We’re students.
