A good quarter of those meetings fail to happen or are placeholders so other meetings don't take the spot. They're busy people, but not nearly as much as their calendar would make you think.
Yes. Or they are an FYI so the boss knows the meeting is happening
You should also consider the fact that that _is_ their work! Coordinating efforts across teams and orgs
I'm sure it varies, but my observation is that on average, the calendars of Sr Director to VP level people I have worked closely with are something like: 1-3 hrs/wk in mtgs with their leadership 5-10 hrs/wk in 1:1 mtgs with their peers and team members 1-4 hrs/wk in team mtgs 5-20 hrs/wk in project-specific mtgs 0-20 hrs/wk on budget and fiscal planning mtgs 0-20 hrs/wk on HR and people topics mtgs 1-5 hrs/wk on internal comms 1-2 hrs/wk working with admin on logistics, travel arrangements, etc 3-20 hrs/wk external engagement 10+ hrs dedicated email time (usually after hours or on weekends) So basically: WLB? Not so much.
