How many lc did you do? Competitive programming experience??
Did ~100-150 LC. no competitive exp
How did you get so many offers with such low numbers? Did you use other practice methods for coding questions as well? Or did you already cover a lot more previously (eg a few years ago for preparation).
Are any of these negotiated? Is remote important to you?
FB Confluent Square were non-negotiable. Rest are Remote is pretty important to me mostly for personal reasons
In that case I’d choose b/w your remote options: Meta, Confluent, and Chime (ignore SQ) Next filter I would use is - TC (if the difference is <= 20k, don’t factor in that much) - team choice (does the product and role you work in fit with where you ultimately want to be and if not, which role/team/company gets you closest to that) -career trajectory, (kind of relates to 2nd point) If you’re interested in fintech - Chime If you like distributed systems - Kafka Meta verse or social media - Meta I’d also DM/ask employees about those teams to see if they know anything. Personally, I’d lean towards Meta because I like working in products I like to use (Instagram,Oculus, etc.)
The numbers seem kind of low. Did you not negotiate? Are these pre negotiation numbers?
FB Confluent Square were non-negotiable. Rest are Grain of salt maybe because I am remote for most of the offers and am a new grad. Curious what numbers have you seen?
Levels.fyi is the best answer. With such offers, 200k isn’t a big deal. Everything in life is negotiable. You need to read - https://www.nicksingh.com/posts/the-secret-art-of-salary-negotiation
Are you including year end bonus?
+1 that would increase your Google Tc to 170k and Fb tc to 165k. Don't know about the other two
Just added for most companies. Square ill need to contact my recruiter again because i received offer verbally recently
Chime? Lol
....can you elaborate on that @VMware
depends honestly, if you wanna work and have fun while at it and dont care about “prestige” Chime all the way, however if you think long term career, brand name value.. Google is a no brainer … best of both worlds
How good is chimes WLB? On a scale from 1-10.
Team dependent… but on average 8
Can someone explain Chime and how they are going to succeed post-IPO? How is the upside and what are they doing to stay away from competitors?
Well they have a business model that can actually turn a profit (which is rarer than it should be,) and they’ve got a pretty good customer base given what they are. As far as competitors I think they’re all in a race to be a one stop shop (in terms of finances) for the younger generation. I think Chime’s got a better chance than most given its growth compared to competitors, and due to making wise leadership decisions, but obv I’m a little biased due to having skin in the game.
Without a doubt, fb or google. More biased towards Google. Chime is great but I wouldn’t have come here as my first job. But then, you also mention that you have already done 5+ internships so that’s almost an year of experience. Personally, I would have picked Google.
Is it because Chime isn’t as established?
No, it’s to do with ramping. Also, other new grads join with you. You can network and create connections. You can explore your interests because fb and goog are huge companies and they work on literally everything you are taught in Computer Science. Compilers - yes. Computer Vision - yes, Databases - yes. Security - yes. I don’t think you’ll get those in a smaller company like Confluent or Chime or Square
Btw annual bonus is part of your recurring TC. You seem to be excluding that from all of your offers. It would also be nice to post the signing/relo bonuses, if any. I’m sure that you if properly posted the FB numbers, FB would be winning this one by a landslide.
The bonuses are included under each company. Only thing im excluding is sign on. No relocation bonuses because my offers are remote. FB numbers are straight from my offer letter so I dont know what else I should be including
Your recurring TC numbers are off by the annual bonus amount. For example, for FB your recurring TC should be 118 * 1.1 + 150/4 = 167.3, not 155. The best thing about the FB offers is the large signing bonus (50k for non-returning interns). That would push your Y1 comp to 217.3k, which would be >= the other companies’ Y1 comp. Y2 onwards you’ll probably be promoted at FB, so your comp will change again.
Meta WLB is team dependent. You should mention the team for others to comment
Need to join and go through bootcamp before I can pick a team
Since you're a new grad I won't recommend a startup at this point (assuming u have no prior xp as well). G and M r both great. Well done!
