Choose H1b or New offer

Apr 3 9 Comments

Hey folks!

I’m currently in the interviewing phase for several companies and I told the HR that I dont have offers lined up. But I actually did and my H1b got picked up.
Even if i get selected for the positions at the companies that I’m interviewing for I wont be able to join till the time my H1b is filed.
I dont want to waste the interviewer’s time as well as mine. Should i tell the HR about my situation or continue interviewing

Any help would be appreciated

Why don’t you accept the offer that you like and join after a few months?

I’d strongly advise you to wait and get the h1 approved as that’s a big deal. So there’s no way you’re moving now and I think it’s better to be transparent about it. Earlier you weren’t certain that you’ll get selected in the lottery so you gave them a start date but now things have changed. I think this is a valid reason.

  • Although interview results do carry small portion of luck factor besides your talent , remember H1b is 100% luck . Guess you got your answer now

if you're already in the loop. complete the interview, get selected and then reject. You'll have good chances to get into that company if you wish so in the future.

Yes, as an ideal truthful person, you shouldn't be wasting their time. But you've already wasted their time with the interviews you've attended. Better complete the process so that they've your data for the complete interview process the next time they want to hire you. It'll be helpful for them.
