Due to timing and schedule reasons, I could only go to one of those companies for onsite interviews. I like all 3 companies so I need some advice on which one of them to proceed. I’m interviewing for a SDE position. What I like about PlanGrid: 2. Relatively unique industry (construction). 3. Relatively early stage (B). 3. Backed by top VCs. What I liked about Compass: 1. HQ in NYC. 2. Industry with interesting data (real estate). What I liked about Wepay: 1. Challenging problems for coding interviews. 2. Since purchased by Chase, potentially comp won’t have paper money?
Once you know results from one
Then do others
I cant think of any situation where you absolutely can only go to one onsite. Maybe you need to prioritize your interviews over whatever else is blocking your schedule?
I don’t have any more PTO left, I have been using them quite aggressively for interviews. So if I have go to all 3 of them I would have to somehow get 2 days off.
Just talk to your manager and work something out, even if its sick leave, I would still go to the onsites
Don't go to WePay. Their senior engineers and architects are extremely snobby. They are interviewing you to see you fail.
Interesting perspective, did you interview there?
Yup. When I started solving the question, he asked "Have you seen this question?" And rolled his eyes. I said I haven't. He asked it again when I finished it.
Call in sick 3 days in a row. That’s more believable than every now and then.
I applied to WePay, they sent me a hackerrank and it said “if you pass, recruiter will talk to you”. NOPE!
Thats literally how 3/4 companies interview nowadays. Ive done almost 15-20 of those hackerrank/codility tests
I wouldn’t recommend PlanGrid. Office is located in Mission SF which is the worst stop, lots of hobos, and work there is not that exciting.
Go to compass
I work at WePay and am excited about the direction we’re heading. We’re currently about 200 people and planning to double twice in the next two years. Hyper-growth is a lot of fun, yes it’s chaotic, but there are a lot of opportunities to influence the organization. I’m excited about the projects which are both important and technically interesting. I have to say I really like the engineering team that we’re building here. It’s a great combination of talented and friendly folks, and I genuinely enjoy showing up to work everyday.
Do one after one
