What qualifications and skills does it really take to be a Cisco SE? I'd love to work with Cisco designing and implementing with various networks and systems but I'm struggling with designing my roadmap to get there. Currently a CCNA with an MBA and I'm at the Director level at 27 but I miss the drive and constant thought provoking work involved with new networks.
Depends what you want to implement. Also all tracks are changing in February. You can go straight to ccnp level.
I guess that was my main question. Does Cisco follow their cert track for their engineers? I'm excited for the changes. I love the Python and automation additions.
As an SE you will mostly make presentations, build "build of materials", do demos and POVs across the portfolio. You'll be expected to know some Enterprise networking including wireless. Know the products as knowing the specifics of BGP isn't needed. You'll be basically a mile wide in all the rest of the portfolio but only an inch deep. You won't really be implementing as services and partners do that. And the job isn't super hands on with the gear unless it's for your own training. During the interview it will be about personality and you should back it up with having some client facing work and if you have previous sales engineering experience that will be a huge plus
Excellent! Thank you
