Citadel Hiring Freeze?

Mar 27, 2020 21 Comments

Had an "onsite" (done virtually) with Citadel recently for the NXT software engineer role. Interviews went well, answered all the questions with no issues, and the teams seemed to like me.

I got contacted from the external recruiter I've been in touch with that the feedback from the onsite was very positive, however she said Citadel is having a hiring freeze "due to these unexpected circumstances" so they can't extend an offer. Is this true? What does this mean if I want to reapply in the future?

  • Hmm I was being told the opposite by my external recruiter partner just yesterday, saying they still hire a lot in this global pandemic. Man, I don’t know what I can trust now.

    • Well it looks like op is not alone. I’m in talk with citadel hr about the offer but the process started to get quite slow over the last week, and now I heard there might be uncertainty about the job opening itself.

  • Yes we're in a hiring freeze like many other firms because of the pandemic. I'm sorry to hear they couldn't extend the offer. I hope you'll reapply when the freeze lifts.

  • I was told this a few months back for Citadel Securities before coronavirus. I was told their budget wasn't approved yet and kept me waiting for a month before I signed with a different company. My takeaway was Citadel recruiting sucks

To be clear, there is nowhere in Citadel hedge fund side of the business that is slowing down hiring SWEs. I am doing 10 interviews a week and there are LOTS of open positions across the different strategies.

My external recruiter just set me up a phone screen for next week so vOv

Smaller Chicago prop shops (CTC, DRW) are still hiring and claim to be busier than ever due to volatility.
