I am currently interviewing at Citadel for a software engineer position and was wondering what the retention is like for SWEs there. Is there a high turnover rate for SWEs, or is that more prevalent in quant/trading positions? #Citadel #citadel #citadelsecurities

mid - high depending on your luck with the manager you get. There are no performance improvement plans, no warnings. Engineers just disappear. I’ve seen many come and gone in few months, some questionable.
Other than that. It is a great company to work for. Few things to keep in mind, you’d have to sign an arbitration clause, research the pros and cons online. None compete is one sided, Citadel controls how long and when to execute it, which would impact your freedom to leave if you end up in a bad group.

Turnover really isn’t that abnormal. I’d say I’ve seen an equal number of people leave under their own will as I have seen fired. One thing to consider is that Citadel really never lays off technologists due to lack of company profitability. This is a big difference from banks and second tier trading firms.

  Yes, paid non-compete usually means people sometimes quit with nothing concrete lined up. A number used this period as runway to start something/join an early stage startup.
