Is it cheaper to eat chipotle everyday than buy groceries ?
Would you recommend it for a software engineer position (in infrastructure related to trading, not an algo dev or similar)? Let’s assume TC ~ $500k (I’ve been told that from preliminary discussions with recruiter). Let’s also assume a couple FAANG offers, Netflix and Facebook specifically, at E5 for ~ $400k TC. I haven’t done big companies before, just small startups throughout my 8y career. I am used to long working hours but I’m sure in the startups I’ve been exposed to less talented people than the average quality at FAANG. I’ve been a top performer at all my startups but don’t think will be able to be that distinguished in an environment with so much talent, from what I read everyone there is really hungry for recognition. What would you choose? How is the environment in Citadel Securities? Thanks
At FANG you will be treated as a god. At Citadel, you are a support function for traders. Caveat: TC trumps everything.
That’s not quite true at least for securities since in the HF world, a lot of emphasis is also on engineering and not just on QR’s. There is no such thing as traders in HF except you can call monitoring people as traders if you want.
Citadel has a reputation for having a very intense and aggressive work environment. I haven’t worked there but I’ve worked for one of their many spinoffs. Some personality types will probably thrive there, but I’d be cautious. If you want to do trading tech, there are many firms with less controversial reputations.
That's true. One of my friend joined citadel lately and his work life balance has suffered a lot. He reaches office before 9 am and leaves around 8 pm.
Do you want to be rich or king? Bc you could be rich and definitely not king at Citadel. Probably could be king at FANG.
9-12 hours, not a king for sure, very intense atmosphere, but I am not in securities. Perks are great, compensation is above market initially, then it depends. Not planning to leave for now, like everything I learn here.
Can you give some numbers +/- 5%. Is it true TC can reach 800k for QR? What makes you do 9-12 hrs a day? Is it just the sheer amount of problems to be solved?
I am QD, not sure about QRs salaries. 250-300ish total annual, mid range for SD/QD. 9-12 is just culture, tasks keep coming and you expected to deliver in time. But no pressure, you are the owner.
OP please update TC when you get official offer.
