I currently work at Chase and keep getting contacted by Citadel recruiters for SWE roles. Anyone currently work at Citadel ? Can you tell me what it’s like versus working at a large bank ?
Citadel is very stressful: very long hours and ppl keep getting fired. Money is good tho if you can survive
Really not that true. Work hours are around 50-60 hrs/week depending on the team and layoffs are pretty rare among SWE (much more common among traders/quant)
50-60 hrs/week falls under long hours
Fuck Citadel. A bunch of ghosting 🐖
Big bank- bureaucracy but there is more of a routine to the slog. Citadel is more similar to consulting hours- weekends were pretty normal, plenty of round-the-clock e-communication
Actually much better now. The build out of the Hong Kong SRE org helps manage a lot of the overnight issues in Asia and Europe. Also net staffing has increased by the hundreds over the last year and hours are A LOT different from what they were 5 years ago.
How bad was it five years ago ?
