A recruiter contacted me about opportunities there. Current Citadel employees, what do you think the work will be like? Will all the cool modeling work be done in Chicago, and only grunt work sent to Austin, or will there be interesting work in Austin too? How do you think the comp will compare?
Word is, Austin is gonna have the securities side
What are you doing in Austin: trading, qr, or dev? Austin is a new location, but the offices are immaculate. Citadel is rapidly trying to expand. If you want the best opportunities to grow/best perks I'd say you want to be in Chicago. But Austin is a nice city and if you like the team go for it.
I'm not doing anything in Austin. I'm wondering if Citadel is going to treat Austin as a satellite office for low paid (relatively) grunt work done by second-class workers. I don't buy the "scale pay according to cost of living" argument, so I don't want to subject myself to that treatment.
Lol no. Your pay may not be identical to ie NYC which has like 70% higher COL, but it's still going to crush tech salaries. Citadel doesn't really hire "low paid"/"low skilled" workers. The whole point is that everyone is the best at what they do and they get paid accordingly. Salaries are also negotiable To quote an executive at a recent talk at the company: "just because we have some people getting paid millions implementing simple linear regression models, that doesn't mean anyone else that we could have paid a lot less would have known or been able to figure out that model would perform best"
Hey folks any opinion on Citadel Securities? I have an onsite coming up in Chicago, I looked up the people I will interview with and they seem super smart with very accomplished careers, I think they are going to grill me to death... infra SWE position.
Yea you'll probably get grilled. Keep a straight face and focus on the problem. Citsec actually has a really good culture (and the best food...). My interviewers were really rough on me, but my team (and everyone else I met) is super patient and friendly
Thanks. I am shitting my pants already!
Spoke to a recruiter back in August and was told that hiring in Austin will initially be for senior C++ engineers. I imagine Austin office will focus on infra which may be for both HF and securities side. Modeling and investment will probably remain in Chicago. Two Sigma is similar, NYC has quant, infra, etc while Houston only has infra and tooling type work devs.
When you say Infra @citadel, do they design build and house their own servers and data centers or is citadel cloud hosted? AWS etc.?
HQ always does better work OP. But hey, money is money. Also, Citadel is piece of shit. Good luck.
Why do you say Citadel is shitty?
Have you worked for Citadel? Or are you just full of shit
