Wonder what’s the second year bonus is for citadel and other HFT (first year is usually guaranteed).
YOE and rôle might differ a lot and making the bonus range too much. Would appreciate answers including % increased/decreased compare to the first year guaranteed bonus, yoe, role.

    Citadel is very toxic from my experience. Pay is just ok as well.

  • I’ve heard that total second year comp is less than first year comp because of the lack of signing bonus in the second year. That being said, if your performance goes below a certain threshold, you would be fired in the second year, so your bonus in the second year should be >= first year bonus if you still have a job.

    • If you get fired, you generally get your prorated bonus as severance. This is not some cheapskate bank/tech that fires you before bonus to save money.

    Could be $0 (you’re fired) or could be $1M+ like 2020.

      One of my friends is a quant dev at Citadel Securities. The company made a killing this year during the GME, AMC fiasco. He got a surprise mid-year bonus last month and is now buying a new 911 turbo

      Also my firm has similar, but less frequent, stories

    I typically work 40 hours but sometimes more. Like it better than Google, not need to waste time writing verbose design docs for promo. Spend way more time coding and shipping features instead.

  • You'll never get real numbers on yoy increases for most places. It depends on individual, team, and company performance. There's too much variation for a general number.

    One guarantee you have is that you will not get less than your initial base + bonus. If your performance is bad you'll just get fired instead.
