I have some friends at Citadel. Engineers there are smart, but developer infrastructure is neglected. Build tools are dysfunctional or nonexistent, and many features are missing tests. Often times engineers are fighting fires

It’s hard to get a Mac but if you have a good reason you will get one ! heck who cares if that makes you efficient, you will just give up on it after few days provided that you need to run all other software on Citrix.

I bought a Windows laptop for home after working there for 6 months. Windows 10 with Linux inside - perfect development setup. And apple was shitting on MacBook s product line far too long, it's no longer superior.

There isn’t a company wide tech stack. It’s team/division/business unit dependent. There are stats majors writing code—it isn’t pretty but it makes a shitton. That’s what you should expect

There’s an aggressive hiring boost for SWE’s right now so it’ll get better. I’d say if you want to take your time doing well thought out tasks over a long period of time to produce something perfect (aka Google-esque swe culture) then this is not the place to be.

I’d describe the code I see as high-quality, bad code. Brilliant people that shove things out to make money as fast as possible and then fix the nuances in prod

A statement I recall from a senior manager: “those rumors come from media attention towards the people in leadership positions and are reporting to the CEO. It’s true, that’s a really tough job to have and there is some turnover. However, if you’re reporting to Ken Griffin and get fired, who cares, you must have been pretty damn good to have gotten the job in the first place”
