Started working at the new place since Jan 2021. Being asked to move to Austin as the company is changing HQ and scope and growth are good in Austin.
Should I accept this.

Current TC in Bay Area 170K + options over 4 yrs
Austin TC 130 K + same options

Is a move worth it ? How much should I ask for to justify a move

  • Ask for the same pay with 10k bonus. Texas isn’t cheap to live in either tbh

    Figure out the cost of living. Remember there is no state income tax in Texas. I’ve been living in Austin for 13 years. It was cheap back then. Bought a 4b 2.5bath house for $250 and now it’s worth $700k. So don’t take the pay cut…the property taxes are insane.

    Don’t take a pay cut to go to Austin. I live here. 7 figs for a decent house in a good neighborhood. Cost of living isn’t that cheap unless you want to live in the type of neighborhood you can experience anywhere else in America for much less.

    Yes for same TC, don’t accept a drop. They can afford what you currently have to drop your TC is a huge dick move
