Tesla Remotely Removes Autopilot Features From Customer's Used Tesla Without Any Notice https://jalopnik.com/tesla-remotely-removes-autopilot-features-from-customer-1841472617
Tesla didn’t do anything wrong, but I don’t think the negative PR was worth the $4-7k FSD costs
Should other OEMs turn off navigation for resold cars? No, it’s ridiculous and Tesla is in the wrong here. It lowers the resell value of all Tesla’s and Tesla owners should be appalled.
Tesla explicitly says they remove autopilot from a used vehicle when sold by a dealer. If a vehicle is sold from person to person, the new owner can keep the autopilot. They treat the car as hardware and autopilot as software. Dealer should have known.
Totally expected. Any time Tesla buys back or is returned one of its cars, all optional features are cleared off the car.
Isn't that kind of a raw deal for the consumer? They would expect to be able to resell the car with the optional features that they paid for, but instead they lose the resale value that would provide and tesla gets to charge twice for it.
It’s a better deal for the consumer/private seller, would you rather buy a vehicle from a third party that has all the optional features or buy from Tesla where those features may have been removed?
